Fly fishing for summer grilse

Fly fishing for summer grilse can be a more relax affair.Single handed fly rods, floating line and small flies are order of the day.Water temperatures are up and fresh run grilse can be seen running and splashing in pools as the run upstream.

These sporting fish can run as early as may and continue right through the summer.

Giving the right water conditions these fish can give great sport.Probably the best time to catch these fish is just after a spate when they are fresh and eagerly awaiting your fly to snap at.

Grilse normally gather in small shoals and they can be seen following each other around the pools.Try not to spook these fish as this can put them of from taking.

Normally in the summer time the rivers can run very low and with strong sunshine during the day the fishing can become tough. The best times of a fish would be dawn and dusk. They will also lie in areas where there is shade like over hanging trees or submerged rocks.

Get to know the pools you are fishing and you will succeed.Study the pools in different water heights, times of day you see fish splashing .

Its a matter of trial and error.Dont just fish from pool to pool hopeing that you will encounter some fish. The best way as I said is to study each pool individually and you will succeed.

I have list here some of the best patterns for grilse fishing at different water heights.

Low water patterns; Stoats tail,Silver stoat,Munro killer,Bann special.

Medium to high water; Allys shrimps,Garry dog,Cascade,Red shrimp.
